A non-profit group led by newcomers is trying to save an iconic Louisbourg building and turn it into a community hub.
The Multicultural Association of Cape Breton recently launched a campaign to purchase the former Grubstake property on Main Street. The group needs $50,000 to acquire the two-storey building, which is approximately 4,828 square feet.
Association vice-president Ocean Le said he was always struck by the big, blue clapboard structure, which housed a series of restaurants for more than 50 years, including the Louisbourg Restaurant operated by the Wong family, the Grubstake Restaurant, and most recently the
Gaslight Café.
