Steve Smith’s career path has led him to places he never expected.
Growing up in Central Florida, U.S.A., Smith didn’t like school and didn’t plan on studying anything at university or college when he graduated from high school.
He didn’t think he’d have a 20-year career in the U.S. Navy or become a coffee roaster in Cape Breton. Nor did he expect he’d take that coffee and sell it from a food truck, then the Cape Breton Farmers’ Market.
However, the 53-year-old has done all that and now he’s opened a full-time coffee shop named after his roasted coffee brand Bungalow Beans.
It opened on Jan. 12 inside The Whale House Pop-Up Bistro in Sydney and is another evolution of Smith’s Bungalow Beans, which opened about nine years ago.
